Chronic Knee Pain APRC

What is chronic knee pain?

Chronic knee pain is regular, long-term pain, sensitivity, and/or swelling in the knees. A variety of conditions may contribute to chronic knee pain, and a multitude of treatments exist to address this pain. Knee pain can be a unique problem and must be addressed thoughtfully.

Why do I have knee pain?

While temporary knee pain may be the result of an accident or injury, chronic knee pain remains unless treated, and may be the result of compounded problems.

Diseases or physical problems may be the origin of your knee pain. These include (but are not limited to):

• Tendinitis

• Osteoarthritis

• Rheumatoid arthritis

• Dislocation

• Torn ligament

• Meniscus tear

• Bursitis

• Gout

• Baker’s cyst

• Chondromalacia patella

• Bone tumors

If you are obese or overweight, your knees are more likely to be strained. When you engage in a physical activity, for each pound you are overweight, your knee must absorb an additional four pounds of pressure.

Attributes which may worsen chronic knee pain:

• Knee structural injuries, which can cause swelling or bleeding, creating an additional chronic problem if not treated correctly
• Strains
• Sprains
• Overuse
• Bad posture when engaged in a physical activity
• Not warming up or improperly stretching
• Infection
• Previous injuries
• Athletic activity
• Age
