Disc Herniation

A disc herniation is when the outer part of the disc has been torn completely through the wall, allowing the inner material to escape. This can be a very serious condition with specific symptoms. Many people get this condition confused with a bulging disc. At The Advanced Pain Relief Center, Dr.Cordima has a few treatments for this specific injury. One of the machines we have at the office is called a decompression machine. Spinal decompression is a non-surgical treatment to help in the management of serious lower back pain or neck pain. It can relieve pain associated with bulging or herniated discs. A decompression machine gently distracts the spine by reducing pressure on sensitive tissues. Decompression works with varying the pull throughout your treatment, eliminating muscle guarding that occurs with regular traction (another treatment we have in the office). Protruding or herniated material can then be pulled back into the disc, ultimately removing pressure on the nerves and speeding up the healing process. Discs normally have a poor blood supply, decompression pulls more blood (therefore more nutrients and oxygen) into the discs and allows the cells to work more effectively in the healing process.
